FAQ

1. Q. What size uniform should I select?
    A. For grades PreK - 6 there is a corresponding size chart but please note that all sizes are average and may vary by uniform vendor.

2. Q. Are there tryouts, cuts, or roster limits for any of the Divisions?
     A.  No all players who wish to play are welcome to do so without fear of being cut from a team based upon ability.

3.  Q.  My child is not a strong player, can I expect him/her to receive less playing time than their teammates?
      A.  As an instructional program, it is our aim to offer equal playing time to the best of the coach's ability during game play.  Please keep in mind our coaches are only human and will do their best, but physical conditioning of individual players can be a limiting factor at times, and substitutions cannot occur until game play is stopped by a referee and it is strategically appropriate to do so.

4. Q. I don't see any information on how many practices and games per week, when will my child have practice?
    A. Our league is made up of volunteer coaches, therefore we do not tell coaches when to schedule their practices, this will be decided after team assignments are completed.  The Pre-K/K and Grade 1/2 Divisions will have practice followed by round robin game play on Saturdays at Lanesborough Elementary School.  Grade 3/4 and 5/6 will have one weekday practice and 1-2 games per week depending upon availability.  Grade 5/6 will likely practice and play games at another town facility due to the larger field size and goals required for this age group. Game schedules will be distributed after registrations close and teams/coaches have been assigned.

5. Q. My child has never played soccer before, should they go down one division?
    A. No, playing down is not permitted within the league.   LYSA is an instructional league and new players can be expected in every division on a yearly basis.

6. Q. My child is in 2nd grade and has been playing since PreK, can he/she move up to the 3-4 division?
    A. Any player that is interested will have to go through an evaluation by the director, coach & assistant coach. A decision on leveling up to the next division includes many factors and not all requests will be approved. Additionally, any player requesting a level up cannot be less than one grade level below the lowest grade in the requested division. (Ex.- A 1st grader, regardless of their ability cannot request a level up assessment to the Gr. 3/4 division, they must wait until the Fall that they enter 2nd grade to make this request.

7.Q. I don't know anything about soccer but I'd like to help by coaching or assistant coaching, can I do that?
   A. YES! We provide a comprehensive instruction book, peer support from existing coaches and have offered training clinics for people that would like to get involved. Please speak to the league Director for more information.
